Position Summary

Trout Unlimited is seeking a Business/Quality Assurance Analyst (BA/QA) for its diverse IT enterprise in order to support functions such as membership services, fundraising, grants management, volunteer operations, marketing, advocacy, and finance. The BA/QA will work across departments and technical teams to investigate, analyze, identify, define and translate business requirements into functional requirements for development and implementation. This full time position is based in Arlington, Virginia out of Trout Unlimited's National Office.

The BA/QA will be responsible for conducting the investigation, analysis, review and documentation of Trout Unlimited's business functions, processes and IT needs. Primary focus initially will be mapping data integration between systems, whether manual or automated, with the goal of efficient automation; developing use cases; monitoring and communicating progress in the development life cycle; tracking all specifications to the business requirements; providing user training; and developing user documentation. The BA/QA will develop test plans, test case scenarios, produce defect reporting, and track to successful closure. The individual will also partner with internal team members for Internal Customer Acceptance Testing (ICAT) and external clients for External Customer Acceptance Testing (ECAT) as applicable.

The BA/QA must be process-oriented and have a strong working knowledge of System Development Lifecycle and Change Management processes. Typical projects include:

  • Disparate system integration
  • Data conversions and migrations
  • Defining improved business processes to eliminate manual work
  • Implementation of COTS products
  • Project execution in line with the IT Strategic Plan

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interact with the business to identify, capture and analyze business requirements
  • Perform gap analysis
  • Identify areas of process improvement
  • Develop functional specifications in a team environment
  • Derive Use Cases where appropriate
  • Develop and maintain traceability matrix ensuring all business requirements have been met
  • Work with team to elicit and manage change requests for enhancements
  • Develop and maintain training material and programs
  • Keep business aware of all changes or critical issues
  • Identify and analyze report requirements and provide documentation for report development
  • Perform Data Analysis including data mapping, report analysis, interface definitions
  • Create, design, and format technical specification documentation including architecture diagrams, process flows, and other information or processes needed to describe required system changes
  • Trouble shoot application issues on behalf of the business
  • Develop a test plan including functional QA, integration testing, string testing, ICAT, ECAT, etc.
  • Develop test case scenarios derived from business requirements
  • Establish defect reporting and tracking
  • Work with all levels of the organization
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of Trout Unlimited
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of constituents, members, organization, and personnel information
  • Work, as necessary, with Trout Unlimited's vendors and partners, including support, troubleshooting, instructions, specifications, handoffs, integrations, and other initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including directly supporting various departments within the organization
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of the organization

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three to five (3-5) years of prior experience in business analysis and quality assurance
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred or equivalent experience
  • Ability to dive in, understand the business, and the needs of internal and external customers
  • Experience with iterative SDLC processes such as SCRUM, Agile, etc.
  • Detail oriented with a passion for quality
  • Presentation skills / experience with clients and the C-suite level
  • Strong work ethic and customer service orientation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills – both verbal and written, to facilitate critical discussions between business customers, project stakeholders, and IT solution providers
  • Proven time management skills to ensure that tasks, documents and projects are followed through to completion and delivered according to schedule
  • Must be able to multi-task, exercise good judgment and work well independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Capability to determine, understand, and document the business case and project scope
  • Ability to gather requirements from multiple stakeholders and translate them into functional solution specifications
  • Strong SQL query experience, proficiency using software programs such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Visio and Outlook
  • Proficiency using Project Management software programs such as MS Project
  • Passion for the outdoors and Trout Unlimited's mission is essential, fly fishing is a plus

Should have:

  • Exacting detail orientation
  • A love of data feed integration

Nice to have:

  • Iterative SDLC certifications
  • Non-profit experience
  • Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP) preferred but not required
